SAY CHEESE. Did you know the mere act of smiling has been scientifically proven to improve your mood, lower stress, and boost your immune system? When you smile your brain releases dopamine and serotonin, chemicals responsible for making you feel happy. Think we're crazy? Just try it. The next time you are feeling blue or stressed, give yourself a time out and smile for 60 seconds (yes you can make sure no one is watching). See if you don't feel a bit more lighthearted afterwards.
THE REAL LOL. Ever wonder why clowns visit hospitals? Even though many people find them terrifying, clowns are permitted in hospitals because they make people laugh. As with smiling, you can also change your brain chemistry and mood with laughter. The physical act of laughing forces you to smile and which we already established tricks you into feeling happy. In fact, just hearing the laughter of others has a positive impact on us and makes us want to join in. Why do you think sitcoms include laugh tracks. Try watching a comedy sketch or show without laughter, it's rough and not nearly as funny. Laughter therapy has become so popular, there are now studios that offer laughing yoga! Google it. It's no surprise. After all, you know what they say, laughter is the best medicine.
